At the risk of sounding judgmental, the money not sent to the bank appears to go to travel, electronic toys, and automobile upgrades. "Things will improve" I'm told which I assume means his long-term unemployed wife will find work. He's a salesman and he's told me "there will always be jobs for good salesmen". The underlying theme seems to be "the future will provide" - but it's the never mind the consequences of the mess you're creating for yourself now that I don't get.
