SAR #14008

Tragedies used to have just three acts.

Austerity Rules! EU consumer prices rose by 0.8% in December, a decline from November's paltry 0.9% growth rate but not as bad as October's 0.7%. After stripping out more-volatile food and energy (which is reasonable in Greece, Cypress, Spain and Portugal because their citizenry can no longer afford to heat their homes or eat much), inflation was a miniscule 0.7%. More worrisome, the prices of goods leaving the factory fell again in November. Can you say 'Deflation'? Are you allowed to?

Less Is More: The Greek government has optimistically banned public protests in Athens on Wednesday. Naturally the Greeks will take to the streets en mass to protest not being allowed to protest.

Assumption: According to the NYT, “economies ordinarily grow”. Unfortunately that assumes facts no longer in evidence.

Enlightened Self-Interest: A Senate bill designed to give some minimum protection to impoverished third world workers following the Bangladesh disasters has been killed by the same multinational giants that profit from killing workers in places like Bangladesh. See, the system works.

Seed Limit: According to a Circuit Court judge, having to undertake a 300 mile journey to get to an abortion clinic is not a hardship because at 75 miles an hour it's just two hours there and two back, with a pee break thrown in.

Everybody Knows: It turns out that the banksters manipulate interest rates. Who knew. Also the price of gold, oil, currency, commodities. Why? Because the system is rigged.

Evidence: Half of the black male Americans under 23 have been arrested, which may be one of the reasons that black men who are the victims of racism age quicker than their non-oppressed brethren. Maybe it's the jail time and not the racism alone.

Hirer Education: Wouldn't y'think that anyone smart enough to go to college could figure out that these days the payoff doesn't cover the cost. Get an education – they can't take that away from you even if they won't pay you for having it.

Almost There: Only after the last tree has been cut down, the last fish has been caught, the last river poisoned will you realize that money cannot be eaten. Cree Nation Tribal Prophecy.

Economies and living things usually grow, but then only to a limit. Modern man does not like limits, he wants to pretend things just go on and on and on, like oil and QE. But even the world has to taper, there are limits to the ocean and the atmosphere. It may not be peak, but something that could be the end is rumored to be near.
