I concur. Today's powerful are virtually indistinguishable from Buccaneers...so when this results in a repeat of 'The Terror' comes around, will they cry for 'mercy'?

And yes, it seems all you have to do is give a man Nobel prize and he'll jump in your pocket, wagging his tail on command.

in his speech bernie quotes from encyclicals, which at first was a bit surprising to me - i had not known that, as he says here, "There are few places in modern thought that rival the depth and insight of the Church’s moral teachings on the market economy."

of course, the fact that they were having this meeting and invited bernie is quite consistent with this
