SAR #14251

George Bush’s extremist assault on civil liberties, human rights and other core American values in the name of fighting terror felt like an aberration. Under Obama they’ve become institutionalized. Dan Froomkin

Just-So Story: Ray Rice's wife (he proposed in the elevator) says that she was responsible for getting knocked out and that she is “hurt beyond words” over the way her husband has been treated. She says they “will continue to … show the world what real love is.” Apparently it involves felony aggravated assault.

Strategerizing: Obama is going on national TV to reveal his 'new' strategy for getting people in the Middle East to hate the US dealing with Muslim extremists. The only question is: Why the hell does he think it has any chance of working?

Tough Love: AT&T and Verizon are pleading with the FCC to abandon the idea that Americans deserve access to 10Mbps broadband service, claiming that it is” too fast”. If you agree, go to Europe and see what its like to have to put up with a paltry 18Mbs. Oh.

Drilling For Dollars: One major player in the fracking game wrote off $1.2 billion last year after it spent $3.40 for every dollar it earned from operations, losing $1.4 billion and running up $23 of debt for every barrel of proven reserves it owns. Most outfits in the industry spend about $1.17 for every $1 they earn and bridge the difference by borrowing via junk-rated debt. Investors acknowledge that there are a lot of ways to make money in the oil and gas business, most of which involve taking money from investors, not earning it by drilling holes in the ground. It's a tradition in the oil patch.

On Any Sunday: The FCC seems poised to abolish the 40-year-old federal rule it passed to help NFL owners fill up those stadium seats by blacking out local broadcast of games unless they were sold out. Now if the anti-trust folks could bestir themselves...

Show & Tell: After spending weeks spreading fears that illegals crossing the southern border were going to bring Elboa to the US, or that travelers from overseas would trigger an epidemic in the US, House Republicans gutted the White House request for funds to help contain the disease in Africa, where is is spreading rapidly among people who don't vote in America.

Sweetener: There are about 1.5 million fewer people working full-time today than there were 6 years ago, before the recovery. Median wealth is lower now than it was back in 2010 – because most of us didn't jump into the market before the Fed started inflating asset prices.

On The Up And Up: Atmospheric CO2 levels have reached record levels (396 ppm). Again. And they are increasing at their fastest rate in 30 years. So much for cutting back.

Private Affairs: The 28 pages withdrawn from the 9/11 report contain “nothing about national security” according the the Republicans. They only detail the Saudi role in financing and training the terrorists and making out with George W. in the Texas badlands.

Just-So Story:....

Doesn't say much for the quality of the Elevator Music. Anyway, must be a marriage made in Heaven with Ranay Rice being a "knockout" Babe!

Strategerizing:

No truth to the rumor that Obummer may be bringing recently retired NFL great Ray Rice in to handle this "hit job" for him.
